Tyler Pipe Team Refocuses and Recommits to EHS/HR Excellence

07/30/2015 McWane, Inc.

Tyler Pipe joined the other McWane facilities in June to refocus their efforts on what is really important to the Tyler Pipe family – their safety, the safety of their co-workers and making sure they don’t leave a mark on the environment that our children will have to contend with in years to come.

Assistant General Manager Greg Simmons and Plant Manager Dan Nelson kicked off the event by reminding team members that no amount of product can account for someone’s life, limb or injury.  They discussed the team’s responsibility and commitment to never violate a company rule or policy, or safety and environmental procedure.  The safety group showed the team several on the job accidents in a comedic manner which drove home how easy it is to get into a routine and forget that safety is not a program, but a way of life.  One of the most moving moments was a presentation by a Tyler Pipe Millwright who was hurt in an industrial accident because he neglected to lock out his machine.  It really brought home to the team that safety is not something we do when it is convenient we have to apply the safety rules to everything that we do all the time!

On the last day of production before a seven day maintenance shutdown, team members were treated to a full blown fish fry complete with fries, hushpuppies and coleslaw.  It is not easy cooking for 300, but they pulled it off without a hitch.  Of course no party is complete without gifts right?

HR Manager Faye Pettigrew reached out to our sister facility, Amerex, and they arranged for Tyler to purchase 300 two and a half pound fire extinguishers which were given to every team member that attended at least three out of four of the presentations during the month of June.
