Clow Water VPP Song
November 11, 2009
During the recent Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) on-site inspection, Clow Water Systems wanted to create a unique and memorable opening presentation. They looked to their talented and creative team for ideas. Andy Boise, a Melting Supervisor and local band lead vocalist, volunteered to create musical accompaniment to use during the opening conference. After several weeks of hard work, Andy put together an impressive VPP song that he created using several attributes unique to VPP such as employee involvement, hazard recognition and incorporated elements of working safe.
Not only did Andy work hard to create an unforgettable and catchy VPP song, he volunteered to sing it live during the opening conference. With an acoustical guitar and speaker for the vocals, Andy’s performance was inspiring. Everyone was very impressed including the OSHA lead audit. He commented that this was one of the most unique and personal opening conferences he has attended. In fact, he asked if he could forward the song to the Voluntary Protection Program Participation Association (VPPPA), which Clow is a member of.
Over the past several years, Clow Water has worked hard to create a healthy and safe working environment for all team members. Quite often during VPP Committee meetings and inspections, Clow team members have found new and innovative ways to take safety to the next level. The VPP song is just one example of an innovative way to improve safety and promote the VPP process.
